A True Christmas Dinner

I love this story from last year. May the joy of the holidays eclipse your circumstances.

Peace to all.

I was setting up for my weekly pub trivia quiz when I saw Christian the bartender lean over to a guy sitting by himself at the bar. The man looked shabbier than the other customers at the pub, with hair that needed cutting and clothes that needed washing.

“The people who just left bought you a burger,” Christian said to him.

“What?” The man seemed confused. “Why would they do that?”

“Um…” Christian looked to me for help.

“Because it’s Christmas,” I said.

“Yeah,” Christian said. “Christmas spirit.”

The man seemed content with that explanation. He chose tater tots to go with his burger and then said, “I’ll be right back.” He left the bar and returned—with a friend in tow. He sat her down at the bar, then split his dinner with her. “These people just bought it for me,” he told her, “because it’s Christmas.”
