Simply Being Present

I had been busy for the past month but made sure to take care of my cat. She had food and water, a clean litter box, and I paid enough attention to her when she asked for it.

Then one day after my self-imposed busyness was over, I went over to her not to placate her so I could move on, but to spend time next to her. After a few minutes of my undivided attention, she realized I wasn't looking to move on and nuzzled in next to me. And as I pet her, she took one of her paws and started to gently pet my face in turn.

Sometimes the nicest thing we can do for someone (or a cat) is to simply be present.
